Marie Maye Herde Bryant 1913-2005

Marie Maye Herde Bryant
February 2, 1913-April 28, 2005

Marie Maye Bryant was born on February 2, 1913, near Holton, Kansas, to A. L. and Susie (George) Herde. As a young girl she moved with her family to Billings, Oklahoma, where she grew up and attended Billings Public Schools graduating in 1931. She then furthered her education by attending Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, where she majored in education.

In 1934 she married Walter Leo Bryant in Billings and they settled on a farm south of Billings and she began teaching school. After they began a family she returned to the home and served her family as a homemaker.

In 1964 she began working at the Billings Fairchild Center. Her husband preceded her in death in 1966 and she continued to make Billings her home. In 1971 she was baptized into the Jehovah's Witness and was a faithful witness until the time of her death.

In the mid-1970's she moved to Blackwell to make her home. In 2003 she moved to Perry, Oklahoma, to be near her daughter. She enjoyed oil painting and her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy Garris of Smyrna, Georgia, and Lois Luthye of Perry, Oklahoma; two sons, Pat Bryant of Glendale, California, and Lloyd Bryant of Hot Springs, Arkansas; two sisters, Doris Ratcliff of Savannah, Georgia, and Jane Best Russell of Stillwater, Oklahoma; a brother, Francis Herde of Billings, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three daughters, Sandra Bryant, Karen Smith and Elsie Bonham; and four brothers, Edwin, Victor, Karl and Arnold Herde.
